Subject Guides

Subject Guides, accessible from the Magale Library home page left sidebar, are tools to help with research in specific subjects. The Subject Guides page is divided into most of the subject areas currently taught at Centenary College. Each subject guide page is organized in the following bullets:

Books in Print: LC Call numbers. This is a breakdown of the Library of Congress Classification System call numbers that will lead to books in the subject area.

Periodicals: DCCS. These are subject-related journals available in Magale Library. The currently subscribed to issues will be on the Browsing Shelf, located on the first floor of the library. The older volumes are located on the second floor. The periodicals are arranged by Dewey Decimal Classification System. The call number, the years that the journal is covered on the library shelves, and a notation for availability in an online full-text database is included for every periodical in this section.

Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, etc. Including the online encyclopedias and dictionaries listed, there are subject-specific reference sources in the Reference Section of the stacks, located on the first floor of the library.

Subscription Databases. Here is a connection to the full-text databases available on the Online Research Page of the Magale Library's website. The databases listed are those that would be most pertinent to research in the subject area.

E-Journals. There are free electronic journals available online. These usually have an archive of 5-10 years. Normally, there is not an index; one must call up the journal issue by issue.

E-Texts. These are free electronic texts available online in the subject area.

Professional Associations. These are professional associations in the given subject area. Each association links to other relevant web sites in the subject and/or have electronic publications available.

Other Related Sources. Carefully chosen websites in the subject area are presented. These web sites have been evaluated and chosen for use in academic research.
