Career options in law and government as well as an overview of the nation s legal system will be explored at Centenary College June 23-28 during the Summer Law Program for high school juniors and seniors.
Deadline for registration is May 13 through the college s Office of Continuing Education Summer Programs at 869-5115.
The week-long program will offer lectures and seminars, visits to area courts, a video on constitution issues and a moot court. Students will experience a week of college life in the residence halls, the dining hall, recreational and athletic facilities, the library and museum, and will participate in planned social events.
Director of the program is Dr. Rodney Grunes, professor of political science, who specializes in constitutional law and politics. The steering committee includes John Dixon, retired chief justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court; Melissa Flournoy, former state representative; Gay Gaskins, appeals court judge; Cart Stewart, 5th Circuit Court judge; E. Paul Young, attorney with Northwest Louisiana Legal Services; and Cecil Ramey, attorney and professor of business law at Centenary.
The course fee, $395, includes tuition, room, board and activities. The fee for students living in the Shreveport area, who will not reside on campus, is $259.
