SHREVEPORT, LA -- Thirty-one students from Centenary College of Louisiana have been selected as national outstanding leaders and named in the 1997 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

Campus nominating committees and editors of the annual directory have included the names of these students based on their academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.

They join an elite group of students selected from more than 1,800 institutions of higher learning in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and several foreign nations. The annual directory was first published in 1934.

Centenary College, a private liberal arts and sciences institution, was founded in 1825 and is the nation's oldest college west of the Mississippi. It is regularly listed among the nation's "best" and "best value" institutions in national publications.

Recently, Centenary was among the "Top 10" Southern colleges and universities in U.S. News's "America's Best Colleges" issue and was among in the Top Colleges for Science by Peterson's Guides
