To Speak Oct. 28 and 29 at Centenary College

SHREVEPORT, LA -- Dr. Steven Chu of Stanford University, a member of the National Academy of Sciences, will speak twice publicly at Centenary College of Louisiana during his Oct. 28-29 campus visit. Dr. Chu is Theodore and Francis Geballe Professor of Physics and Applied Physics at Stanford.

On Oct. 28, he will speak on "Applications of Laser Trapping and Cooling to Atom Interferometers and Polymer Physics," at 6:30 p.m. in Room 114 of Mickle Hall.

He will also speak on "The Manipulation of Atoms, Molecules, and Particles with Laser Light," a presentation that will address applications in chemistry, physics, biology and engineering. That lecture will be held at 4 p.m. Oct. 29 in Centenary's South Dining Hall.

Dr. Chu's visit is made possible by a grant to the Centenary Departments of Chemistry and Physics from the Laser Science Division of the American Physical Society.

Students and faculty from Centenary and colleges and high schools throughout the region have also been invited to attend the free lecture series.
