Parents and Family Weekend is Nov. 1-3 at Centenary College

SHREVEPORT, LA -- Centenary Choir performances, the dedication of the Peavy Memorial Climbing Wall, mini courses, an egg drop contest and open houses are among activities planned for Parents and Family Weekend Nov. 1-3 at Centenary College.

The annual event is sponsored this year by the Student Government Association.

The internationally recognized Centenary Choir will present its fall concert, Rhapsody in View, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, and again at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3 at the Shreveport Civic Theater.

A 52-foot-tall climbing structure, the Patrick W. Peavy Jr. Memorial Climbing Tower, will be dedicated during a 10:30 a.m. ceremony at the tower site, which is between the Haynes Gymnasium and Mickle Hall. Following a brief ceremony, a reception and climbing demonstration will be held. The tower was a project of Dr. Barrie Richardson's leadership class.

Friday, Nov. 1
-- Registration, Moore Student Union Building, 1 - 7 p.m.
-- Performance by comedy hypnotist and hypnotherapist Dan LaRosa, Hargrove Amphitheater (Kilpatrick Auditorium if cold or raining), 7 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 2
-- Registration continues, South Dining Hall foyer, 8:30 a.m.
-- Continental Breakfast, South Dining Hall, 8:30-9:15 a.m.
-- Welcome by Dr. Kenneth L. Schwab, Centenary President, and Jimmy Van Doren, SGA President, 9:15 a.m.
-- Dedication of the Patrick Peavy Memorial Climbing Tower, between Haynes Gymnasium and Mickle Hall, including a climbing demonstration, 10:30 a.m.
-- Mini Courses, 9:50 a.m., 10:50 a.m. and 2 p.m.
-- Annual HumptyFest Egg Drop Contest sponsored by the Department of Physics, southeast corner of Mickle Hall, 11:30 a.m.
-- Open Houses in participating faculty and administrative offices, 11:45 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
-- President's Reception, Meadows Museum, 3-4 p.m.
-- Greek Open Houses, fraternity and sorority houses, 4-5 p.m.
-- Dining in Centenary Dining Hall, 5-6 p.m.
-- Centenary Choir's Rhapsody in View concert, Shreveport Civic Theater, 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, Nov. 3
-- Continental Breakfast, James Hall Lobby, 9-10 a.m.
-- Day left open for parents and students to spend time together
-- Brunch, North Dining Hall, 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
-- Centenary Choir's Rhapsody in View concert, Shreveport Civic Theater, 2:30 p.m.
