Centenary College will host 40 members of the Danish Association of Teachers of English on its campus Oct. 5-19.

Participants are chosen yearly from among high school English teachers in Denmark and are then allowed to select one of several programs offering academic and cultural experiences in English speaking countries. The program designed by Centenary had a waiting list of 60 people.

The program at Centenary will highlight Southern literature and culture. During the first week participants will study with members of Centenary's faculty as well as tour local points of interest such as the Meadows Museum, Natchitoches, Melrose Plantation and Caddo Lake. On Thursday, Oct. 10, author George Garrett, Hoyns Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Virginia, will give a public convocation in Kilpatrick Auditorium focusing on Southern literature.

The second week of the course will take the Danes and their Centenary hosts to Lafayette and New Orleans to study Cajun and Creole culture. While in New Orleans, they will meet with Shirley Ann Grau, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Keeper of the House.

Dr. Grace Bareikis, Centenary's director of intercultural affairs, is coordinating the program.
