SHREVEPORT, LA -- First Houdini, then David Copperfield, now Barrie Richardson.

The Dean of Centenary's Frost School of Business, who is also a magician, is pictured on a recent cover of The Linking Ring, the monthly publication of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM). The issue also includes a sketch about Dr. Richardson's contributions to the art of magic and a separate parade of magical stunts he has invented.

The IBM is the largest association of professional and amateur magicians in the world. Each year it selects 10 persons to feature on the cover.

The IBM article states that Richardson, like those who have inspired his life and work, "understood the supreme importance of doing something extraordinary with the ordinary;' of setting a stage, dramatizing its ideas, revealing its intrinsic powers, and celebrating its dreamy aspects."

Richardson, a member of the Centenary faculty since 1983, is the Samuel Guy Sample Professor of Business Administration as well as dean of the business school. He has been interested in magic since his childhood.

He earned the B.A. degree from Carleton College (1955) and the M.B.A. (1956) and D.B.A. (1961), both from Indiana University. He has won many awards for outstanding teaching and was an A.W. Mellon Exchange Lecturer in Great Britain. A nationally known speaker and workshop presenter, Richardson infuses magic into his message, using magic demonstrations to illustrate management ideas. Among his publications is the book The 10% Principle: How to Get Extraordinary Results from Ordinary People.
