Centenary Chemistry Graduate Michael Farris Receives POLYED Undergraduate Polymer Research Award

SHREVEPORT, LA -- Michael Farris, who graduated from Centenary College in May with a Bachelor of Science degree, has been chosen to receive a national Undergraduate Polymer Research Award. Nominees for the award were required to be seniors and had to present their findings or have had them published.

Farris, one of ten national recipients, was selected based upon his knowledge of Polymer chemistry. He presented "The Synthesis and Characterizations of Partially Flourinated Diesters" in a symposium format at the University of Mississippi and at Centenary during a Science Colloquium.

Farris is attending Southern Methodist University’s master’s degree program in chemistry. His fellowship covers tuition and fees and he will also receive stipends for teaching and research in the Department of Chemistry. The POLYED award was cosponsored by Dupont and is a joint effort of the Polymer Chemistry and Polymeric Materials; Science and Engineering Divisions of the American Chemical Society.
