SHREVEPORT, LA -- Dr. Grace Bareikis of Centenary College has been asked to serve as interim director of student life at Centenary following the resignation of Dr. Michael Lawrence.

Dr. Lawrence, who was appointed dean of student life last spring, will resign his post Aug. 15 due to medical reasons, said Joel Wincowski, dean of enrollment management.

"Mike is a very hard worker who has contributed a great deal to Centenary in a short period of time. We are going to miss him," Wincowski said. "We are fortunate to be able to call on Grace Bareikis, who has graduate training in college student personnel, for assistance during this interim period."

Wincowski said that a national search will be launched within the next two weeks with hopes that a new dean could be in place by January.

Director of intercultural affairs at Centenary for the past five years, Dr. Bareikis is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Indiana University. She earned a B.A. degree in political science and German, an M.A. in college student personnel administration, and an Ed.D. with a concentration in higher education administration, all from Indiana University.

Prior to joining the Centenary administrative staff, she was a consultant with InterEd International Education Consultants, whose clients included Johns Hopkins University, and was director of administration for the Indiana University System Office of International Programs.

She will become interim director on Friday, Aug. 15 and will oversee fall orientation activities that begin on Tuesday, Aug. 19. Classes begin on Aug. 25.
