27 Centenary College Students Honored in 1998 Edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges
SHREVEPORT, LA--Twenty-seven students from Centenary College of Louisiana have been selected as national outstanding leaders and named in the 1998 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Campus nominating committees and editors of the annual directory have included the names of these students based on their academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.
They join an elite group of students selected from more than 1,900 institutions of higher learning in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and several foreign nations. Outstanding students have been honored in the annual directory since it was first published in 1934.
Students named this year from Centenary are: James Van Doren of Jonesboro, Ark.; Matt Morgan of Bastrop, La.; Jimmy Jones of Bossier City, La.; Steven Bell of Coushatta, La.; Lori Formby of Haynesville, La.; Monique Cousins of Lafayette, La.; Cara Couvillion of Pride, La.; Robert Caldwell, April Callaway, Tara Hammack, Shay Journo, James Love, Michelle Reeve and Rebecca Scott, all of Shreveport, La.; Bret Pagni of Reno, Nev.; Melanie Martin of AHUS Air Force Base, Okla.; Dave Clampitt of Midwest City, Okla.; Christy Smith of Germantown, Tenn.; Amanda Ellis of Atlanta, Texas.; James Finklea of Beaumont, Texas.; Luke Edmonson of Dallas, Texas; Amy Ware of Elysian Fields, Texas; Amanda Compton of Hallsville, Texas; Courtney Dickey and Leah Frierson, both of Houston, Texas; Amber Norwood of Jasper, Texas, and Leigh Compton of Spring, Texas.
Centenary College, a private liberal arts and sciences institution, was founded in 1825 and is the nation’s oldest college west of the Mississippi. It is regularly listed among the nation’s "best value" institutions in national publications.
Recently, Centenary was listed among the "Top 15" colleges and universities in the South in U.S. News and World Report and among the nation’s best values in Money magazine.-30-
