Continuing Education at Centenary College announces The Saturday University for Writers

SHREVEPORT, LA -- Two new classes in creative writing are being offered through the "Saturday University for Creative Writers," sponsored by the Office of Continuing Education at Centenary College. These non-credit courses are for anyone interested in developing writing and creativity skills.

" Writing the Short Story" explores the intricacies of writing short fiction, which sometimes can be more difficult than writing a novel. The course will cover such topics as character development, pacing, plot and setting. This class is for any level writer who wishes to be motivated to write, share his/her writing with others, and who desires to improve editing skills.

This course will meet on Saturdays, beginning Feb. 8 and continue for 4 weeks, until March 1, from 10 a.m. to noon. Instructor is Ashley Havird, a local fiction writer and poet. The class will be held in Room 22 of the Center for Extended Learning, 2910 Centenary Blvd., directly across from the Meadows Museum. Course fee is $50.

" Say It Like You Mean It!" is for anyone who has opinions but who isn't always sure how to express them and get them published. Conley Smith, KDAQ Public Radio commentator, Journalpage columnist and Forum Magazine Editor, will help you get started with the non-fiction essay, provide techniques that help you make your point, and provide you with sure-fire editing tips.

This class meets on Saturdays, beginning on March 8, and continues through March 29, from 10 a.m. to noon. It meets in Room 22 of the Center for Extended Learning, 2910 Centenary Blvd., directly across from the Meadows Museum. Course fee is $50.
