Michael Bastian is new Softball Coach at Centenary College

SHREVEPORT, LA -- Michael Bastian has been hired effective Jan. 29 to coach the Centenary College softball program, which has not had a winning season since 1991.

Bastian comes to Centenary after spending a year coaching on the Women's Professional Fastpitch Tour. While there he helped lead the WPF Storm to a 32-30 record in the team's inaugural seasons of competition. Prior to that he served as the assistant softball coach at Ohio State University.

The 34-year-old Bastian has had head coaching stints at West Hills Community College in Coalinga, Calif., and at Lassen Community College in Susanville, Calif. He worked his way up through the coaching ranks by serving as an assistant coach at two other small colleges in California.

A native of Rio Linda, Calif., Bastian earned his B.S. degree in physical education from California State University in Sacramento. While there he played two years on the Hornet basketball team.

He has served as an instructor and guest speaker at numerous softball camps and clinics around the country. He has worked such prestigious camps at the National Softball Coaches Association's Exposure Camp, the UCLA Softball Camp and the Ohio State University Softball Clinic. He has also hosted his own Michael Bastian Summer Softball Camp in Reno, Nev., and throughout the Midwest. He has been an instructor at the California Baseball and Softball School as well as the Ron LeFebvre School of Baseball and Softball.
