SHREVEPORT, LA -- The Prevailing Winds will present a free public concert at Centenary College at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 1 in the Hargrove Memorial Amphitheater in the center of the Centenary campus. The performance will feature an appearance by B. P. Causey, director of bands emeritus at Centenary.

Based in Bossier City, The Prevailing Winds is a community concert band conducted by Dr. Thomas Stone, current director of bands at Centenary College. The ensemble performs through the year and is composed of both professional and non-professional musicians. A Bossier City performance is slated for 7 p.m. Saturday, July 5 at Asbury United Methodist Church.

B. P. Causey organized and conducted a series of memorable summer concerts in the Hargrove Amphitheater that spanned three decades and became a staple of summer life in Shreveport. He served on the faculty at Centenary from 1941 until his retirement in 1981. He will return to conduct Semper Fidelis, a well-known march by John Philip Sousa.

Several members of The Prevailing Winds trumpet section will perform Leroy Anderson's Bugler's Holiday, a perennial favorite of American concert audiences. Among those to be featured are trumpeters James McLelland and his daughter, Jennifer. The McLellands are loyal and long-standing members of the ensemble.

The July 1 concert will be hosted by Dr. Kenneth L. Schwab, Centenary president. The performance will include highlights from My Fair Lady, Phantom of the Opera, and a musical salute to the United States Armed Forces.

The Prevailing Winds are sponsored by the Bossier Arts Council and by private and corporate donations.
