SHREVEPORT, LA -- Centenary College will honor 43-year professor Dr. Lee Morgan during its annual Founders' Day Convocation at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13 in Brown Memorial Chapel.

The program, free and open to the public, will feature an address by Dr. Morgan, who will retire from active teaching at the end of this academic year.

Morgan, a specialist in the literature of Samuel Johnson, is the first and only holder of the Willie Cavett and Paul Marvin Brown Jr. Chair of English at Centenary. He is co-author of three books, a former visiting professorship at campuses around the world, and is a former tutor at St. John's College, Oxford University.

The convocation will also include special music by the Centenary Choir and the awarding of the Outstanding Teaching Award and the Alumni Research Grant to members of the Centenary faculty.

Founders' Day Convocation is one of two special programs at which all faculty and graduating seniors dress in academic regalia and march across campus to the chapel.

It celebrates the college's founding in 1825 and its status as the nation's oldest college west of the Mississippi River. The event also kicks off four days of activities associated with the college's annual Alumni and Family Weekend.
