Memorial Service to late Centenary Music Professor Donald Rupert
to be Musical Tribute at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 at Centenary

SHREVEPORT, LA -- Members of the Centenary College music faculty will present a musical tribute to the late Dr. Donald Rupert, a long-time Centenary faculty member who died Feb. 8 in Highland Hospital.

The memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 in the Brown Memorial Chapel on the Centenary campus. Speaking at the service will be the Rev. Jayne Trammell-Kelly, chaplain of the college; Dr. Kenneth L. Schwab, Centenary president; and the Rev. Robert Ed Taylor, professor emeritus and former chaplain.

Dr. Gale Odom, soprano, and Dr. Melanie Foster Taylor, pianist, will present Vocalise, op. 34, no. 14 by Rachmaninoff, and Dr. Horace English, bass-baritone, and Professor Ronald Dean, organist, will perform Dal Tribunal' Augusto (from Psalm 42) by Marcello.

Dr. Taylor will also present Takemitsu's Rain Tree Sketch II and, with pianist Joy Ratcliff, Le Jardin Feerique by Ravel. The program also includes Cantique de Jean Racine, op. 11 by Faure, performed by Centenary's Camerata Singers, and Sonate in A Minor by Telemann, performed by Dr. Leta Carson on flute, Laura Crawford on violin, Dr. Ron Bukoff on bassoon, and Professor Dean, organ.

The program will close with the Chorale Prelude Before thy Throne I Now Stand (Bach) with Professor Dean, organist.

Dr. Rupert was a member of the Centenary music faculty from 1971 until his retirement in 1995. He came to Centenary after teaching 12 years at Wisconsin State University. He studied as a Fulbright Scholar at the State Conservatory of Music in Cologne, Germany in 1960-61 and as a private pupil with Guido Acosti, Academic di Santa Ceclia, Rome, Italy.
