SHREVEPORT, LA -- The largest contribution ever at Centenary College -- $10 million -- was announced yesterday (Thursday, Oct. 16) by Centenary President Kenneth L. Schwab.
"The sum will be made at least twice as large since it will be matched by future gifts to the College during the course of our comprehensive campaign," Schwab told a group gathered to dedicate the College's new apartment-style residence hall, Rotary Hall Suites. "The comprehensive campaign is in its quiet phase at the moment but it is about to get much louder."
He said that the $10 million was an anonymous contribution that will allow the college to pursue a number of possibilities that have been identified through its planning process. Among them are academic and faculty support, endowment growth, a Wellness Center, a new Science Building, a remodeled Student Center and Library, and a Performance Hall and Arts Complex.
"The possibilities that these matching funds provide for Centenary College are incalculable," Schwab said.
Earlier the same day, the Centenary Board of Trustees met on campus and voted to designate the $10 million as a matching fund to advance the comprehensive campaign. "Thus we intend to transform this $10 million into at least $20 million."
A 6-foot-long check for $10,000,000, dated Oct. 16 and signed "anonymous," was unveiled by Roy S. Hurley, chairman of the Centenary Board of Trustees, and William G. Anderson, vice chairman.
