Centenary to Celebrate Homecoming with A Mardi Gras Theme Feb. 6-7;
Public Mardi Gras Parade Set for Saturday Morning

SHREVEPORT, LA -- Centenary College will celebrate its annual student homecoming event Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6 and 7, with activities including a bonfire, party, parade, tailgate party, homecoming court presentation and Gents basketball game.

The weekend's activities will begin with a bonfire at 8:15 p.m. Friday behind the baseball field. The Centenary College Choir, the Leading Ladies dance line, and the college's pep band will perform. The event is free and open to the public.

Following the bonfire, Centenary students, faculty and staff will attend a private party at Kon Tiki, sponsored by the Centenary Student Government Association.

On Saturday, the Centenary Residence Life Association will bring the spirit of Mardi Gras to the Centenary community by sponsoring a homecoming parade with a Mardi Gras theme. The parade will begin at 10:45 a.m. and will include a fire truck and participants from area businesses and organizations, as well as from Centenary organizations.

Parade participants will meet in the Jackson Hall parking lot, where floats will be judged for color, spirit and theme. After leaving the Jackson parking lot, the parade route will turn right onto Centenary Boulevard, right on Wilkinson Street and right onto Woodlawn before concluding at the Gold Dome.

Prizes for floats and cars will be given at a tailgate party after the parade. The tailgate party is being sponsored by the Residence Hall Association.

At 1:05 p.m., the Centenary Gents basketball team will take on Jacksonville State in the Gold Dome. The homecoming court will be presented during half-time festivities. Admission to the basketball game is $6 for adults and $3 for students.
