Centenary School of Church Careers Honors Seven During Annual Endorsement Service

SHREVEPORT, LA -- One alumna and six students are this year's honorees of the Centenary College School of Church Careers. The seven were recognized during the annual Endorsement Service for Church Careers held at Centenary in May.

Betsy Eaves, a member of the Centenary Class of 1978, received the Bentley Sloane Alumni Award for professional achievement in a church-related vocation. She is the Shreveport-Bossier Campus Ministries director and the Shreveport District Missioner for the United Methodist Church.

Students who received awards are:

* Matthew Stephens of Baton Rouge, Class of 1999, who received the Minnie Hall Brown Award as a worthy Church Careers student exemplifying high moral character;

* Jonathan King of Shreveport, Class of 1998, and Melanie Martin of Altus Air Force Base, Okla., Class of 1999, who both received the Jim Sears Award for outstanding contributions to the Church Careers community;

* Tabitha Beatty of Shreveport and Marc Braden of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., both of the Class of 1998, who were chosen for the D.L. Dykes Founders' Award for excellence in field education work; and

* Chris Brooking of Brandon, Miss., Class of 1998, who received the Dick Anders Award for ++Christian Stewardship.

The Rev. Jayne Trammell-Kelly, chaplain and director of the Centenary School of Church Careers, announced the awards. Centenary College of Louisiana, founded in 1825, is the oldest college west of the Mississippi River. It is a private, selective liberal arts college that is regularly ranked among the nation's "best values" and "best college buys." It is located in Shreveport, La.
