New Director of Meadows Museum is Diane Dufilho of Asheville, N.C.

SHREVEPORT, LA -- A new director of the Meadows Museum of Art will join the Centenary College community on July 1. She is Diane Dufilho, whose most recent appointment has been as associate director of education for the Asheville, N.C., Art Museum. During the past academic year, she was honored by the North Carolina Art Education Association as the North Carolina Museum Educator of the Year.

In Asheville, at the post she has held since 1992, Ms. Dufilho developed a Museum Art Education internship program with the University of North Carolina-Asheville, Mars Hill College and Warren Wilson College. She also expanded the Asheville Museums' in-house program to accommodate over 5,000 students and adult chaperones, and she created, wrote, piloted and developed sustained funding for the Literacy through Art Rural Outreach Program.

Her responsibilities also included the development of public programs, including an annual lecture series and continuing education unit recertification courses for teachers. She also helped to develop partnerships with several regional organizations.

Ms. Dufilho's past experience includes serving as an adjunct instructor for graduate studies in the Western Carolina University Art Department, as a fifth-grade teacher at St. Louis Cathedral School in New Orleans and as outreach curator of education for the New Orleans Museum of Art. She has also taught beginning and intermediate drawing at Delgado College and beginning printmaking at the School of Art Institute of Chicago. She was an English as a second language instructor at both the U.S. Information Service's Embassy School in Kathmandu, Nepal, and the Kanda Gaigo Gakuin in Tokyo, Japan.

Ms. Dufilho earned bachelor's degrees in English from the University of New Orleans in 1981 and in art from San Francisco State University in 1977. She earned the Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago in 1982.

She assumes the position vacated by longtime Meadows Museum director Judy Godfrey, who moved to Abilene, Texas.
