Dean Tim Martin

Furman University Admissions Officer to Join Centenary College Administrative Staff as Dean of Enrollment Management

SHREVEPORT, LA -- James Timothy "Tim" Martin of Greenville, S.C., will join the administrative staff of Centenary College of Louisiana on July 1 as the college's new dean of enrollment management.

Martin is currently senior assistant director of admissions at Furman University, a private liberal arts institution in Greenville. Prior to joining Furman in 1994, he worked in the Office of Community College and Interinstitutional Relations at Florida State University and was associate dean of admissions at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla.

"We are pleased that Tim Martin will be joining the Centenary family," said President Kenneth L. Schwab. "He is experienced in admissions and brings a high level of energy to this challenging position at Centenary."

Martin has extensive experience in counseling and recruitment, scholarship and financial aid advisement, and application review, and has established and managed territorial recruitment objectives for multi-state regions. He has also worked with articulation agreements and application procedures for prospective transfer students and has coordinated and organized large groups of volunteers to assist with various institutional activities.

After attending public school in Princeton, N.J., he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with a minor in French language from Eckerd College in 1985 and the Master of Science in higher education administration from Florida State University in 1994. His wife, Phyllis, is director of development at the YWCA of Greenville.

His civic and volunteer work includes serving as a basketball coach for the Princeton YMCA, as youth director of the American Summer Institute in St. Andrews. Scotland, golf coordinator of the Scotland Institute, and a member of the Greenville County Mental Health Association, Hands on Greenville, and Freedom Weekend Aloft. He has spent extensive time in Scotland and has traveled to Turkey, Kenya, the Czech Republic, the former Soviet Union, 13 European countries, five provinces of Canada and 39 of the 50 states.

Martin assumes the position being vacated by Joel Wincowski, who returned to a post in his native New York.
