SHREVEPORT, LA -- Bass-baritone Timothy Jones, a native Shreveporter and Centenary College graduate, will return to his alma mater for an appearance in the Friends of Music series.
He will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18 in the Recital Hall of the Hurley School of Music. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for students, with Centenary students, faculty and staff admitted free.
Dr. Jones received his Bachelor of Music degree from Centenary and was named the most outstanding music graduate in 1988. He earned his master's and doctorate degrees from the University of Michigan, where he studied under the tutelage of distinguished professor George Shirley.
His operatic performances have included Count Almaviva in The Marriage of Figaro, Marcello in La Boheme, Master Ford in Falstaff, Jake in Porgy and Bess, Mephistopheles in Berlioz's La Damnation de Faust, Demetrius in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Dr. Malatesta in Don Pasquale, and the title role in Mozart's Don Giovanni.
He has performed at the Aspen Summer Music Festival in several productions, including Virgil Thompson's Four Saints in Three Acts and Benjamin Britten's Owen Wingrave, in which he performed the title role. An active concert singer and recitalist, Dr. Jones has appeared with numerous symphony orchestras, including the Shreveport Symphony, Colorado Springs Symphony, Greater Lansing Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, Charlotte Symphony, and Houston Symphony orchestras in performances of oratorio and concert works. As a recitalist, he has an international reputation, having performed in Mexico, the Czech Republic, Germany, Canada, and throughout the United States.
He is currently an assistant professor of music at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
