SHREVEPORT, LA - For the tenth consecutive year, U.S. News and World Report has named Centenary College of Louisiana to "America's Best Colleges." This year Centenary is ranked as the No. 2 "Best Value" and No. 11 among the South's "Best Regional Universities."

Centenary is listed second among 15 Southern regional universities highlighted as "Great Schools at Great Prices" in the Sept. 6, 1999 issue of U.S. News. Centenary is also ranked 11th among 33 institutions in a separate listing of the South's "Best Regional Universities" in the Aug. 23 issue. Both rankings will be included in the year 2000 edition of the guidebook America's Best Colleges.

"Once again, we are pleased to be listed at the top of some very fine institutions," said Centenary President Kenneth L. Schwab. "An outstanding faculty, a caring staff and a motivated student body come together here for a unique college experience. We continually strive to present a top-quality liberal arts education in a student-centered program that seeks to be as cost-effective as possible."

U.S. News noted that it measures value by relating the cost of attending a college or university to its quality. "Higher academic quality coupled with lower cost to students equals a better deal," the magazine said. It bases its regional university rankings on academic reputation, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.
