World-Class Organist James Kibbie to Perform Sept. 19 at Centenary College

SHREVEPORT, LA -- World-class organist James Kibbie will perform on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in Brown Chapel, Centenary College. His performance will open the 1999-2000 Friends of Music Series.

Highly regarded as an authority on organ repertoire and performance, Dr. Kibbie is an associate professor of organ at the University of Michigan. He also promotes interest and study in the organ and church music for young musicians.

Kibbie participates in concerts, recordings, and festivals throughout North America and Europe, and is also a jury member of international organ competitions. His performances have been broadcast on radio and television in the USA, Canada and Europe. In addition, he is the first American to have won the International Organ Competition of the Prague Spring Festival in Czechoslovakia.

During the year 2000, the 250th anniversary of the death of Johann Sebastian Bach, Kibbie will perform the complete cycle of Bach organ works in a series of 18 recitals. He will also tour throughout North America, presenting Bach recitals, masterclasses and workshops.

Tickets for this event are available at the Hurley School of Music at $8 for adults and $4 for students. Season tickets can be purchased at a rate of $30 for adults and $12 for students.
