Hurley School of Music to Present Dr. Ross E. Smith in Concert at 8 p.m. Feb. 26 in Hurley Auditorium

SHREVEPORT, LA -- The Hurley School of Music at Centenary College will present Dr. Ross E. Smith in concert at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26 in the Hurley Auditorium.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, will feature Dr. Smith performing the solo piano music of Mozart, Schumann, Casadesus, Martinu, Faure and Liszt.

Dr. Smith is assistant professor of piano at the Hurley School of Music. In addition to teaching studio lessons, he also teaches music theory, keyboard technique for piano majors, and music appreciation.

He received his bachelor's degree in music from Brigham Young University, where he studied with Paul C. Pollei. He earned his Master of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in piano performance and pedagogy and studied with Arthur Greene (piano) and Joanne Smith (pedagogy).

For three years, he taught piano and literature at the University of Michigan All-State Summer Camp at Interlochen. He has been an active soloist, giving recitals throughout the United States and Italy. He has won several awards in piano competitions, and in 1994 he was a quarterfinalist in the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition.

Dr. Smith is also an active clinician, giving workshops and lecture recitals on topics ranging from Pedaling Techniques to Rachmaninoff's Faust sonata.
