Goldring Family Foundation Assists Meadows Museum's Art and Soul Exhibition Series

SHREVEPORT, LA -- The Meadows Museum of Art at Centenary College has received $8,000 from the Goldring Family Foundation of New Orleans to assist with costs related to the mounting of the exhibition "Crafting a Jewish Style: Works from the Bezalel Academy, 1906-1996."

Curated specially for travel by the Jewish Museum of New York, the exhibition is the second in the Museum's "Art and Soul" exhibition and program series. "Crafting a Jewish Style" has been scheduled for a venue at the Meadows Museum of Art during the 2000-2001 holiday season.

The Museum's Art and Soul exhibition and program series begins in November 1999 with "Windows to Heaven: Russian Icons from the Daniel R. Bibb Collection" with selections from the collections of the New Orleans Museum of Art and John L. Lolley.

More than 100 icons will be featured in this first Art and Soul exhibition for which the private collector, Daniel R. Bibb, and Curator of Decorative Art for the New Orleans Museum of Art, John W. Keefe, will visit Shreveport-Bossier.

The Art and Soul series continues during the 2000-2001 holiday season with "Crafting a Jewish Style" from the Jewish Museum. Discussions for a third Art and Soul exhibition to be scheduled during the 2000-2001 holiday season are currently under way with another Louisiana arts institution.

The Art and Soul series has been designed to broaden and strengthen community through the development of public programs that utilize works of art from a variety of cultural traditions for study. The Meadows Museum is currently establishing focus groups to assist with the creation of public programs designed in tandem with Art and Soul exhibitions. Generous assistance from the Goldring Family Foundation, the first for the Art and Soul exhibition and program series, has enabled the Museum to finalize scheduling and begin important program development.

For more information about the Art and Soul exhibition and program series or other exhibitions, programs and events scheduled for the Meadows Museum of Art at Centenary College of Louisiana, call the Museum at 318-869-5169.

The Meadows Museum of Art at Centenary College is located on the west side of the Centenary campus at 2911 Centenary Boulevard. The Museum is open to the general public free of charge Tuesday through Friday between noon and 4 p.m. and on weekends between 1 and 4 p.m.

The Meadows Museum of Art is supported in part by a grant from the Shreveport Regional Arts Council with funds from the City of Shreveport.
