Gents Hold Off Jacksonville, Post Win in TAAC Home Opener

SHREVEPORT, LA -- Senior Tim Law (York, AL) and sophomore Ronnie McCollum (Fayette, AL) combined to go 8-for-8 from the foul line in the final minute of play as Centenary held off Jacksonville 58-52 in Trans America Athletic Conference play Saturday night (1/9/99).

The Gents (6-7, 2-1 TAAC) led 27-11 at halftime and led by as many as 22 points early in the second half before the Dolphins closed to within 51-47 with 1:37 left to play.

However, McCollum, who was 13-for-13 at the line in the the game and has made 30 consecutive free throws, and Law combined to seal Jacksonville's fate.

McCollum's 1.000 percentage from the foul line tied a school record (minimum 10 attempts) shared by five others.

McCollum finished with a game-high 21 points and freshman Ed Dotson (Detroit,MI) added 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Jameel Anderson led the Dolphins (5-8, 0-3) with 14 points and Jason Dangerfield added a dozen.
