1999-2000 Friends of Music Series to Feature Organist Kibbie, Pianist Zeltser, Chamber Music by New Friends, and French Performers Doulce Mémoire

SHREVEPORT, LA - A Renaissance consort of voices and instruments, concerts by a world-class organist and an internationally known pianist, and chamber music are scheduled for the 1999-2000 Friends of Music Series at Centenary College. Also new this season: a Renaissance Feast Buffet offered on campus before the Nov. 7 concert by Doulce Mémoire, a group of seven performers from France.

Dr. Gale Odom, dean of the Hurley School of Music, has announced a series of four concerts that will comprise the coming season for the popular series that brings high quality concerts to the intimacy of the Hurley School of Music Recital Hall and the atmosphere of Brown Memorial Chapel.

They are:

  • James Kibbie, Organist, Sunday, Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in Brown Chapel
    Kibbie is the University of Michigan's world-class organist. His opening concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, September 19 at 7:30 p.m.

  • Doulce Mémoire, A Renaissance consort of voices and instruments, Sunday, Nov. 7, 7:30 p.m. in Hurley Recital Hall
    The group of seven performers from France plays a lively program of songs and dance in the spirit of a 16th Century feast. Authentic instruments will be used. Preceding the concert will be a Renaissance Feast Buffet at 6 p.m. in the South Dining Hall of Centenary's Bynum Commons. Tickets are $11.95 and can be reserved by calling the music office at 318-869-5235.

  • New Friends of Music chamber music, Sunday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Hurley Recital Hall
    The New Friends of Music, a group of regional artists led by cellist Ruth Drummond, will present chamber music. The group has given the concert series some of its favorite programs over the years.

  • Mark Zeltser, pianist, Sunday, March 26 at 3 p.m. in Brown Chapel
    Centenary music professor and internationally recognized pianist Mark Zeltser will perform the Series' season finale. He is a grand Russian virtuoso with a masterful command of the keyboard.

    Tickets for the series are available at the Hurley School of Music in the Hurley Building, which is located on the east side of the Centenary campus on Woodlawn Avenue. Season tickets cost $30 for adults and $12 for students. Single concert tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for students. Centenary students are admitted free.
