Four Elected to Centenary Board of Trustees

SHREVEPORT, LA -- Four new members have been elected to the Centenary College Board of Trustees. They are C. Walter Dobie of Lafayette, Robert B. Hamm of Shreveport, C. Vernon Sanders of Atlanta, Ga., and Sally S. Treat of Shreveport.

Their election was announced by President Kenneth L. Schwab and Board Chairman Bill Anderson following confirmation by the Louisiana Conference of the United Methodist Church at its annual meeting.

In addition, two long-time trustees were elected to life membership. They are Sam P. Peters and H. Blume Johnson, both of Shreveport.

C. Walter Dobie C. Walter Dobie
C. Walter Dobie has been an independent petroleum geologist headquartered in Lafayette, La. since 1968. He is an active member of the Lafayette business and civic community and is the former chairman of the board of the Episcopal School of Acadiana. He has served as a member of the Louisiana Civil Service Commission and the Centenary President's Advisory Committee.

A native of El Dorado, Ark., he is a 1950 graduate of El Dorado High School. He earned his B.S. degree cum laude in geology from Centenary in 1954 and completed additional studies at the Colorado School of Mines. He is married to Dr. Ann Brewster Dobie, professor of English at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, and they have two children.

Robert B. Hamm Robert B. Hamm
Robert B. Hamm is chairman, president and chief executive officer of Berg, Inc., a $50 million per year industrial and mechanical construction contractor.

Born in Minden, La., he attended public schools in Shreveport and graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1958. He attended Southern Methodist University on a football scholarship and majored in mechanical engineering. In 37 years with Berg, he has held almost every job in the company.

Active in Shreveport professional and civic activities, Hamm is a past president of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Shreveport-Bossier, American Subcontractors Association of Northwest Louisiana, and the Shreveport Chapter of American Society of Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Engineers. He is a past director of the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) and formerly chaired the MCAA Management Methods Committee and the Education Committee, and was the recipient of MCAA's E. Robert Kent Award for innovation in productivity improvement.

He is married to the former Celeste Tindol of Alexandria and they have three children.

C. Vernon Sanders C. Vernon Sanders
Dr. C. Vernon Sanders has practiced internal medicine in Atlanta, Ga. since 1963. A native of Monroe, he earned both B.A. and B.S. degrees at Centenary, attending from 1949 to 1953, before completing the M.D. at Duke University in 1957. He served an internship at Duke University Medical Center in 1957-58 and residency/fellowships at Georgetown University Medical Center from 1958-63.

Dr. Sanders was board certified in 1964 and recertified in 1974. He is a former member of the board of directors of Northside Hospital in Atlanta. Among his special projects are the Clyde and Estelle Sanders Scholarship Fund at Centenary and the completion of his fifth volume of poetry and his second novel.

He is married to Lynn Sanders and they have three children.

Sally S. Treat Sally S. Treat
Sally Stone Treat attended C.E. Byrd High School and Centenary College. She resided in Minden from 1945 to 1995 and returned to her native Shreveport in recent years.

A past president of the Minden Junior Service League and the Minden Woman's Department Club, she is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha and St. John's Episcopal Church. She is a past president of the Women of St. John's and served on the State Diocesan Board of the Episcopal Women.

Her memberships also include the Shreveport Club, Cambridge Club, Shreveport Country Club, Cotillion Club, Women's Endowment Quorum of Centenary, the Shreveport Symphony Guild, and the Shreveport Opera.

She is the widow of Frank B. Treat Jr. and the mother of two children.

The new trustees will join the Centenary Board at its next quarterly meeting, which is scheduled for Oct. 7.
