Violinist Elizabeth Zeltser, Accompanied by Evan Solomon, to Present Guest Recital Oct. 13 at Centenary's Hurley School of Music

SHREVEPORT, LA -- On Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. the Centenary College Hurley School of Music will present a recital by phenomenal young violinist Elizabeth Zeltser. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be in the Recital Hall of the Hurley Building on the Centenary campus.

The program will contain music by Brahms, Bach, Paganini and Tchaikovsky. Miss Zeltser will be accompanied by Evan Solomon.

Miss Zeltser began studying the violin at the age of 3. At age 5, she made her orchestral debut playing the Vivaldi Violin Concerto in New York City. As a child, she toured Europe, including performances in France and Italy. On this tour, she was accompanied by her father, renowned pianist Mark Zeltser, who is now a professor of music at Centenary College.

At age 12, Elizabeth Zeltser performed Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto with the Chavez Orchestra of Mexico City. Upon her return to New York, she won the Juilliard School competition, which resulted in a performance of the Bach A-minor Violin Concerto with the Juilliard Orchestra at Lincoln Center in May 1990. Some of this talented young artist’s appearances have been with the Orchestra Virtuosi di Roma in Paris, Sinfonia Virtuosi in Ft. Lauderdale, the Modesto Symphony, Savannah Symphony, Symphony Orchestra of Caracas/Venezuela, Moscow Chamber Orchestra, and Russian National Orchestra. She won First Prize in the Russian National Violin Competition and First Prize in the L. Kopan International Violin Competition in 1998.

Miss Zeltser was a student of Dorothy DeLay at Juilliard, and in 1995 was accepted at the Moscow Conservatory, where she recently graduated as the youngest student ever to receive a master’s degree at that prestigious institution.

Pianist Evan Solomon, a native of Ohio, began his piano studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music. A graduate of Grinnell College with a major in mathematics, he received the Master of Music degree from the University of Southern California as a student of Brooks Smith. He is currently on the accompanying staff of the Juilliard School in New York City.

Mr. Solomon has performed in chamber music and vocal recitals throughout the United States as well as France, Germany, Japan and Korea. Recent broadcast credits include appearances on CBS Sunday Morning and CNN with acclaimed cello prodigy Han-Na Chang, and performances on Bravo Channel and National Public Radio’s Performance Today, with advanced students from the Juilliard School.
