SHREVEPORT, LA -- Doulce Mémoire, a Renaissance consort of voices and instruments, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7 in Centenary College's Hurley Recital Hall.

A special French-inspired buffet will precede the event at 6 p.m. in the South Dining Hall of Bynum Commons. During the dinner, the Shreveport Symphony musician Andrew Brandt will give a musical demonstration on the recorders from the Blanche Ferguson Collection, housed at the Hurley School of Music.

The Doulce Mémoire concert, the second in the 1999-2000 Friends of Music Series, dedicates itself to Renaissance vocal and instrumental music. It will feature seven French musicians recreating a lively program in the spirit of a feast in the 15th and 16th century courts.

Founded in 1990 by musical director Denis Raisin Dadre, Doulce Mémoire unites young singers and instrumentalists eager to rediscover the techniques of early music performance. This performance by the group will involve six instrumentalists and one singer in a program entitled "Musique de Joye." Four wind instruments, percussion, one string instrument, and countertenor Marc Pontus will blend to create the sounds of 16th century France and Italy at the time of King Francis I.

Founder Denis Dadre studied music in Lyon, Geneva, and Paris. He holds a bachelor's degree in musicology, as well as certificates in ancient music and the recorder. Following his studies, Dadre played in orchestras and with the flute trio "I Dilletanti." Since 1990, he has been dedicating himself to the group Doulce Mémoire and numerous radio broadcasts. He also teaches in the Department of Ancient Music at the CNR of Tours, France.

Doulce Mémoire travels the United States and Japan in 1999, and will conclude its tour of the United States here in Shreveport, after performing in New York, Washington, Pittsburgh, and Boston.

Tickets for the concert are $8 for adults and $4 for students. Centenary faculty and students may attend free of charge. Tickets for the dinner before the concert are $11.95.

Tickets for both events may be reserved by calling the Hurley School of Music office at 318-869-5235.
