Centenary Book Bazaar

SHREVEPORT, LA — The 14th annual Centenary College Book Bazaar—with over 30,000 books, records, CDs, and tapes—will be held Friday and  Saturday, Sept. 15 and 16, in the Centenary College Gold Dome. Sale hours on Friday will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Offerings include bestsellers, cookbooks, encyclopedias, dictionaries, literary classics, novels, textbooks, children’s books, first editions, signed books, rare books, and scores of other categories. Music categories include classical, rock, country and western, rhythm and blues, rare albums, and more.

Proceeds are used to fund projects and programs for Centenary College students. Past projects include providing carillon chimes; camping and exercise equipment; the New York Times delivered daily to the Student Union Building; a $1,000 scholarship fund; picnic tables; furniture for  residence halls, classroom buildings, and the administration building; and graduation day events for students and parents,.

The book sale has become an annual favorite of book collectors, students, and casual readers. Shoppers are encouraged to bring their own boxes and bags to hold their purchases, or they can buy canvas tote bags at the door.  Admission is free, and prices start at 25 cents.

The Centenary College Book Bazaar—one of the largest book sales in  the country—is sponsored by the Centenary College Muses. Co-chairs for this year's event are Dian Tooke, director of service learning at Centenary, and Hazel Fleck, community volunteer.
