Over 30,000 Books Available at the
Centenary College Book Bazaar 2000
SHREVEPORT, LA — The
14th annual Centenary College Book Bazaar—with over 30,000 books, records,
CDs, and tapes—will be held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 15 and 16,
in the Centenary College Gold Dome. Sale hours on Friday will be 6 p.m.
to 9 p.m., and Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Offerings include bestsellers,
cookbooks, encyclopedias, dictionaries, literary classics, novels, textbooks,
children’s books, first editions, signed books, rare books, and scores
of other categories. Music categories include classical, rock, country
and western, rhythm and blues, rare albums, and more.
Proceeds are used to
fund projects and programs for Centenary College students. Past projects
include providing carillon chimes; camping and exercise equipment; the
New York Times delivered daily to the Student Union Building; a $1,000
scholarship fund; picnic tables; furniture for residence halls, classroom
buildings, and the administration building; and graduation day events for
students and parents,.
The book sale has become
an annual favorite of book collectors, students, and casual readers. Shoppers
are encouraged to bring their own boxes and bags to hold their purchases,
or they can buy canvas tote bags at the door. Admission is free,
and prices start at 25 cents.
The Centenary College
Book Bazaar—one of the largest book sales in the country—is sponsored
by the Centenary College Muses. Co-chairs for this year's event are Dian Tooke, director of service learning at Centenary, and Hazel Fleck, community volunteer.
