Gallery Announces Programs for 2000-01 Academic Year
SHREVEPORT, LA -- Centenary
College's Turner Art Center Gallery has announced its programs for the
2000-01 year, including exhibitions of paintings, photography, watercolors,
and student art.
Two convocations are
also scheduled. Dr. Lisa Nicoletti, visiting assistant professor of art
and English, will speak on "Art and the Holocaust" at 11:10 a.m. Nov. 2
in Kilpatrick Auditorium. She will discuss the important of art to the
Nazis and their victims during World War II.
Professor Bruce Allen,
chairman of the Department of Art, will discuss "Art and Culture in Contemporary
China and Tibet" at 11:10 a.m. March 15 in Kilpatrick Auditorium. Professor
Allen traveled to the two countries during his recent sabbatical.
Both convocations are
free and open to the public.
Turner Art Center is
located at 3000 Centenary Boulevard. Gallery programs for the year are:
Aug.
18-Sept. 8, 2000:
K. Brodnax, "Regeneration," an exhibition of paintings from the artist’s
recent Master of Arts degree. Artist’s reception: Aug. 18, 6-8 p.m.
Sept. 15-Oct.
15, 2000:
Mike Silva, "Salvation?", an exhibition of photographs influenced by the
artist’s Catholic upbringing. Artist’s reception with Gospel music: Sept.
15, 6-8 p.m. Gallery talk by the artist: Sept. 15, 7 p.m.
Oct. 22-Nov. 18,
2000:
Hoover Watercolor Society, Small Painting Exhibition, the Hoover Watercolor
Society’s annual fall juried show, with works selected by art historian
Dr. Lisa Nicoletti. Artists’ reception: Oct. 29, 2-4 p.m.
Nov. 2, 2000:
"Art and the Holocaust" convocation, Kilpatrick Auditorium, Smith Building,
11:10 a.m. to noon. Free and open to the public. Dr. Lisa Nicoletti will
discuss protest art created in Germany and in the death camps of World
War II and how the Nazis attempted to squelch it.

Ioanna Panos, "Untitled," Centenary student Ioanna Panos’ senior exhibition.

Feb. 2-23, 2001:
Brett Angell, "Curiosities," Surreal paintings by Boston artist Brett Angell.

March 15, 2001:
"Art and Culture in Contemporary China and Tibet" convocation. Kilpatrick

April 20-May
5, 2001:
Student Art 2000, annual student exhibition, featuring works by graduating
senior Sarah Margaret Lagersen. Artists’ reception: April 20, 6-8
p.m.
The Turner Art Center
Gallery is free and open Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m.-to 6 p.m.,
Fridays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and weekends from 2-5 p.m. For more information,
