SHREVEPORT, LA -- Centenary professors Horace English and Gale Odom will give a joint faculty recital on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Hurley School of Music.

The program will contain selections from Earth and Air and Rain, a song cycle by Gerald Finzi on texts of Thomas Hardy, as well as the complete Hermit Songs by Samuel Barber.

The Hermit Songs were premiered in 1953 at a recital at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. by Leontyne Price and Samuel Barber. They are brief settings of anonymous Irish texts of the eighth to 13th centuries written by monks and scholars, often on the margins of manuscripts they were copying or illuminating.

The recital will also feature songs by Richard Strauss and Johannes Brahms, and one duet by Stephen Sondheim from his musical Sweeney Todd.

Accompanists for the program will be Joyce English and Ronald Sat. The program is free and open to the public.
