Ladies Play Close but Falter Down the Stretch to Texas Pan American

SHREVEPORT, LA -- The Centenary Ladies and the Texas-Pan American Lady Broncs played despite the sleet, a power outage, and threats to cancel the game. The Ladies played their best game of the season on the scoreboard, as they held close for 31 minutes, but eventually wore down and lost the game 48-40.

Centenary (0-19) and UTPA (4-16) played a sloppy game with 70 turnovers and 47 fouls called between them. Centenary shot 26.1 percent from the field, while UTPA hit only 32.6 percent of their shots. Despite that, the Ladies were in the game, and actually led for a portion of the second half.

The last time the Ladies had the lead was at 25-24 with 11:04 remaining in the second half. From there, the Lady Broncs turned up the defensive pressure on the depth-shy Centenary team, forcing 11 turnovers in the final 11 minutes to pull out the win.

Centenary had no players in double figures, with center Prudence Garrison leading the way with nine points. Guard Sandy Burris chipped in with seven points.

UTPA had one player in double figures, as forward Leah Valdez scored a game-high 21 points on 7 of 20 shooting from the field.
