Centenary Athletes, Maroon Jackets Sponsor Day on Campus for Lighthouse Students; Ron Anderson to Speak on MLK Day Jan. 17

SHREVEPORT, LA -- Centenary College athletes and members of the Maroon Jackets honor organization will host a public convocation by Lighthouse Director Ron Anderson and a visit by students from the Lighthouse in observance of Martin Luther King Day on Monday, Jan 17.

Anderson will speak on "A New Age: Age-Old Challenges" at 11 a.m. in the Brown Memorial Chapel. The program is free and open to the public.

Also participating in the convocation will be the Rev. Harry Blake, pastor of the Mt. Canaan Baptist Church; the Mt. Canaan Youth Choir; the Rev. Mack McCarter of Shreveport Community Renewal; Dr. Kenneth L. Schwab, Centenary president; and the Rev. Jack O'Dell, Centenary chaplain. Melissa Gabriel will present the "I Have a Dream" speech, and Blane Sessions, coordinator of the Student Athletic Advisory Council, will discuss the day's activities.

Before and after Anderson's speech, Centenary athletes will introduce the Lighthouse students to the Centenary campus, classes, dining hall, and athletic activities. The Lighthouse students will arrive at the Gold Dome at 8:30 a.m. to meet their hosts and pair up with specific athletes or Maroon Jackets.

Between 9 and 10:50 a.m., the guests and their hosts will attend classes and tour the campus before having lunch at noon in the Centenary Dining Hall.

In the afternoon, the group will participate in athletic demonstrations, games and team-building exercises in the Gold Dome before boarding the bus for the Lighthouse at 2:30 p.m.
