Internationally Active Musician Victoria Fischer To Perform Sunday, March 19 at Centenary

SHREVEPORT, LA - Former Shreveporter Victoria Fischer, an internationally active pianist, teacher, and scholar, will perform a public concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 19 at Centenary College, her alma mater. The program will be held in the Hurley Auditorium and admission will be free, as a public service of the Hurley School of Music.

She will present Beethoven's Sonata in E-flat major, Op. 31, no. 3; Chopin's Waltz in A-flat major, Op. 42 and Fantasie in f minor, Op. 49, as well as Bartok's Fourteen Bagatelles, Op. 6.

In addition to playing a teaching a broad repertoire, Dr. Fischer has specialized in the music of Bela Bartok, and shares her insights into Bartok's music through performance, workshop presentations, and scholarly research.

Dr. Fischer has performed as soloist and chamber musician in Hungary, England, Greece, Italy and Belize, as well as in the U.S., and served as competition judge and master clinician abroad and at home.

She has served as guest artist and professor at the University of Belize, and at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece, leading seminars in piano pedagogy and musicology.

Dr. Fischer earned the Bachelor of Music in 1976 from Centenary and degrees in piano performance from the University of Texas at Austin (M.M. and D.M.A.). She also holds a master's degree in musicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

She has studied at the Vienna Conservatory and the Goethe Institute, and she is currently on the music faculty at Elon College in North Carolina. She speaks fluent German is working on her Italian.
