Golf Channel to Feature Centenary Alumnus Hal Sutton during Programs April 18 and 27

SHREVEPORT, LA – Former Centenary College golf star Hal Sutton will be the subject of an in-depth profile piece produced by the Golf Channel.

The half-hour program will trace Sutton’s rise to the ranks of golfing elite from his beginning as a player in Shreveport.

The show will use footage shot in Shreveport on Centenary’s campus, as well as archived newspaper and magazine reports culled from the school’s files on Sutton.

The air dates are Wednesday, April 18 at 9 p.m. Central time, with a re-broadcast that night at midnight. The show will then run once again on Friday, April 27 at 5 p.m.

Sutton was an All-American golfer for the Gents from 1976-80. As a senior, Sutton led Centenary to the NCAA golf tournament and a 19th-place finish in the nation.

Individually, Sutton won 14 collegiate tournaments in his career,
including the U.S Amateur Championship in 1980. That was the same year he was named NCAA College Player of the Year and Golf Magazine’s College Player of the Year.

Sutton went on to win the 1983 PGA Championship before falling on hard times through the late 1980s and early '90s. He came out of that slump in resounding fashion, ending last season as one of the top money winners on tour and a winner in the Tournament Players Championship after dueling for 18 holes with Tiger Woods.

That win gave him five victories in two years, the best two-year stretch he has had in his 20 years as a pro.
