Dr. Christopher L. Martin New Dean of the Frost School of Business and
Linco Chair Holder
SHREVEPORT -- Dr. Christopher
L. Martin of Shreveport has joined Centenary College of Louisiana as the
new dean of the Frost School of Business. Following a national search,
Centenary selected Dr. Martin for the post vacated by Dr. Barrie Richardson,
who retired in May after 18 years at Centenary.
In addition to serving as dean, Dr.
Martin is one of four endowed chair holders Centenary will install during
its President's Convocation on Aug. 21. He will hold the Rudy and
Jeannie Linco Eminent Scholars Chair of Business Administration.
Prior to joining Centenary, Dr. Martin
was professor and chair of the Department of Management and Marketing at
Louisiana State University in Shreveport.
He earned his Ph.D. from the College
of Management at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the fields of organizational
behavior and human resource management. He completed his master’s work
at Southern Methodist University and his undergraduate work at Vanderbilt
University.
Dr. Martin's writings have addressed
organizational fairness, anger and disruptive workplace behavior, technologically
driven change, organizational downsizing, human resource management strategy,
trust, and leadership. His most recent research has combined his two dominant
interests: organizational fairness and organizational change. He has focused
specifically on the means by which organizations can maintain productivity
and morale in the wake of layoffs and the means by which speedy re-employment
can occur for those who have lost their jobs.
His research has appeared in numerous
journals, including The Journal of Applied Psychology, The Academy of Management
Journal, Journal of Management, OBHDP, and Administrative Sciences Quarterly.
In addition, the managerial implications of this work have been noted by
The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The New York Times, CNN,
USA Today and Business Week. Dr. Martin is also the lead author of
the new McGraw-Hill/Irwin text, HRM From A to Z.
Dr. Martin is married to Shreveport
native Kathryn Kerlin Martin. They are the parents of three sons, Harrison,
6; Holden, 11; and Christopher Jr., 14.
