Memorial Service
for Professor Emeritus Johnson Watts Set for 2 p.m. May 16 in Brown Chapel
SHREVEPORT, LA -- A memorial
service for Johnson Watts of Shreveport, professor emeritus of German at
Centenary College, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 16 in the prayer
chapel of Centenary's Brown Chapel. Chaplain Jack O'Dell will officiate.
Mr. Watts, who joined the Centenary
faculty in 1965, taught German language and literature. When he retired
in 1992, he was serving as registrar. In 1994 and 1995, he returned
as lecturer in foreign languages.
A native Kentuckian, Mr. Watts was
born Nov. 26, 1924. He earned the A.B. degree in 1946 and the A.M. in 1949,
both from Duke University, where he earned the Phi Beta Kappa distinction.
He also completed further graduate work at the University of Wisconsin.
Professor Watts was much respected
and beloved by his colleagues and his students. He ate lunch in the
cafeteria every day and, being a raconteur and coversationalist and having
a winsome personality, presided over "his" table with a wonderful sense
of humor. He enjoyed his work and was a faithful and devoted faculty
member.
