Centenary Christmas Celebration to Include Public Service of Music, Readings, Candlelighting Dec. 7 in Brown Chapel
 

SHREVEPORT, LA -- Centenary College's 2001 annual Candlelight Christmas Celebration will include a public service of readings, prayer, music, song and candlelighting on Friday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. in Brown Memorial Chapel. The program is free and open to the public. 

Music will be provided by Professor Ronald E. Dean, organist; the Centenary Camerata Singers conducted by Dr. Julia B. Thorn and accompanied by Gay Grosz; the Centenary College Choir, directed by Dr. Will Andress and accompanied by Josh Melson and Drew Ley; and the Centenary Brass Quintet, led by Dr. Thomas Stone, band director.

Camerata will sing Gamelan by Schaffer, Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming by Sandstrom and Wonderful Peace by Nordqvist. The Centenary Chorale will present Rutter's Candelight Carol.

 The Centenary Brass Quintet will perform the prelude with several selections of "Gathering Music for Christmas." Quintet members are Dr. Stone on trombone; Joey Legg and Mike Maricelli, trumpets; Stan Vlademar, horn; and Jeremy Tidmore, tuba.

The Centenary Choir will present Haan's Welcome Holy Child, with performances by Ben Pierce, tenor, and Laura Watson, violin; Mendoza's Gloria A Dios with a quartet comprised of Katie White, Kristen Middleton, Jason Lahay and Zack Ingrim; and Berkey's Jesu, Son Most Sweet and Dear with Blair Doerge, soprano.

Jason Burnham, a senior Church Careers student, will deliver the Christmas message.  

The congregation will be invited to sing several familiar Christmas hymns, including O Come, All Ye Faithful; O Come, O Come Emmanuel, Hark! the Herald Angels Sing; Silent Night, and Joy to the World. Professor Dean will accompany the hymns and will play the postlude Good News from Heaven the Angels Bring by Pachelbel.

During the service, selected readings and prayers will be led by Dr. Jack O'Dell, chaplain, and students representing the Centenary Church Careers Institute: Laci Adams, Kelsey Bellamy, Breanna Betts, Katie McKay and Katie Walker.
