Centenary Book Bazaar
Earns Record Amount
SHREVEPORT, LA -- Centenary Book
Bazaar organizers are reporting one of the best years ever following the
Sept. 14-15 sale in the Gold Dome.
"This year's Bazaar grossed in excess
of $29,500, the largest gross in Book Bazaar history," said Dian Tooke,
cochair of the 15th annual event. "Its success was possible only
because so many at the college and in the community contributed their time,
and because others came by to buy books."
Co-chair and community volunteer
Hazel Fleck also joined Centenary President Kenneth L. Schwab in thanking
the Centenary Muses and the many long-time Book Bazaar volunteers, including
Zoe Ramsey, Bill Garrett and Paul Madden, who work year-round to prepare
books for the sale, and Patsy Wolfe and Judy Scott, who handled the food
and hospitality room.
Proceeds from the annual sale, which
draws thousands of attendees from throughout the area, go to support projects
for Centenary students. Additionally, the Bazaar seeks to make books,
records and tapes available to those in the community who could not otherwise
afford them. Prices started at 25 cents.
Dates for the 16th annual Book Bazaar
are tentatively set for Sept. 13-14, 2002, with official drop-off donation
days on the second Fridays of March, April, May, June and July.
