International Criminologist/Professor
S. Giora Shoham of Tel Aviv University to Give Public Lectures Sept. 24
and 25 at Centenary College
SHREVEPORT, LA -- Professor S. Giora
Shoham of Tel Aviv University, a leading international criminologist and
professor of law and philosophy, will give public presentations Sept. 24
and 25 at Centenary College.
Both programs, free and open to the
public, will be held at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Hurley Music Building,
which is located on the east side of the campus and faces Woodlawn Street.
The Monday evening topic will be
"The Bacchae, Sacrifice, and the Sacred" and the Tuesday evening topic
will be "Valhalla, Calvary, and Auschwitz."
Professor Shoham, the former assistant
attorney general of Israel, is the author of over 70 books. Throughout
his career he has focused on the connection between ancient Greek and Hebrew
myth and modern social structures.
He comes to Centenary as an Attaway
Fellow. The Attaway fellowships, endowed by the late Douglas and
Marion Attaway, bring to campus people who have made extraordinary contributions
to the public discussion of ideas.
His presentations are also part of
the college's First-Year Experience program for students who are new to
Centenary.
