SHREVEPORT, LA -- Professor S. Giora Shoham of Tel Aviv University, a leading international criminologist and professor of law and philosophy, will give public presentations Sept. 24 and 25 at Centenary College.

Both programs, free and open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Hurley Music Building, which is located on the east side of the campus and faces Woodlawn Street.

The Monday evening topic will be "The Bacchae, Sacrifice, and the Sacred" and the Tuesday evening topic will be "Valhalla, Calvary, and Auschwitz."

Professor Shoham, the former assistant attorney general of Israel, is the author of over 70 books.  Throughout his career he has focused on the connection between ancient Greek and Hebrew myth and modern social structures.

He comes to Centenary as an Attaway Fellow.  The Attaway fellowships, endowed by the late Douglas and Marion Attaway, bring to campus people who have made extraordinary contributions to the public discussion of ideas.

His presentations are also part of the college's First-Year Experience program for students who are new to Centenary.
