Opens Sunday with Zenaida Concert at Centenary College
SHREVEPORT, LA -- The Friends of
Music Concert Series will open this Sunday, Oct. 13 at 3 p.m. in the newly
renovated and renamed Anderson Auditorium of the Hurley School of Music at Centenary College.
The concert features Zenaida, chamber musicians from Baton Rouge playing
music with harp.
The program will contain music by
Mozart, Haydn, Kuhlau, Debussy, and Massenet. The concert will conclude
with the Quintet for Flute, Harp, Violin, Viola, and Cello by Jean-Michel
Damase.
Zenaida is made up of Kelly Smith
Toney, violin; Kamila Slufarska, viola; David LeDoux, cello; Sarah Beth
Hanson, flute; Kristen Kean, flute; and Sally Lyons Wood, harpist and manager
of the group.
Harpist Sally Lyons Wood, a native
of Louisiana, received her bachelor of arts and her bachelor of music degrees
from Louisiana State University. She is currently principal harpist
of the Baton Rouge Symphony and the Shreveport Symphony, but has also performed
extensively throughout the South. She has been the featured artist with
the Gulf Coast Symphony, the Monroe Symphony and the Shreveport Symphony.
She has appeared with the Jefferson Philharmonic, the Acadiana Symphony,
the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra, the Jackson Symphony, and the Marshall
Symphony. Ms. Wood has also performed with the Alexandria Opera, the Shreveport
Opera, the Baton Rouge Opera, and the Natchez Opera.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5
for students. Admission is free to Centenary faculty, staff, and
students with ID. Season tickets will also be on sale, for $35 for
adults and $15 for students. Reserved seats are now available in
the auditorium.
