FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (8/03) Mike Woods Joins Centenary College Board of Trustees
SHREVEPORT, LA—Michael H. Woods, Shreveport business and civic leader, has joined the Centenary Board of Trustees, following confirmation of his appointment by the Louisiana Conference of the United Methodist Church. Woods, a native and lifelong resident of Shreveport, is currently involved in his family’s oil and gas exploration business, serving as president of Woods Operating Co., Inc. He is a lifelong Republican and is U.S. Rep. Jim McCrery’s finance chairman and a member of the Republican State Central Committee. He is a member of the Board of Supervisors of the University of Louisiana System of Colleges and Universities, serving as chair of the Finance Committee and vice chairman of the board. An adjunct professor at LSU in Shreveport, he teaches Environmental Law and Nonprofit Governance and Decision Making. Woods’s civic activities include service with the Red Cross, YMCA, Boy Scouts, Junior Achievement, Trinity Heights Christian Academy, LSU and LSUS Alumni Associations and LSUS Foundation, including leadership roles as local and regional president/officer and local and regional board member. He is also active with the First Baptist Church of Shreveport, serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and a member of the Finance Committee. He has chaired the First Baptist Church School Board of Trustees twice. He graduated from LSUS in 1975, the University of Oklahoma in 1977 and LSU Law Center in 1980 before completing a master’s in environmental science at LSU in Baton Rouge in 1999. He recently received the LSUS Distinguished Alumni Award. He and his wife, Tracie, have four children. - 30 - |
