Centenary Students, Staff Earn 10 Regional, 5 National Awards from Association of College and University Residence Halls

SHREVEPORT, LA—Centenary College students and staff have been recognized with 10 regional "Of-the-Month" awards from the Southwest region of the national Association of College and University Residence Halls (SWACURH). The region covers Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and Mexico. Five of those honored went on to receive national awards as well.

Student Jennifer Hayes, a junior from Lake Charles, La., won as August's Executive Member Of the Month for the region, and Centenary's chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) received the regional and national NRHH Chapter of the Month awards.

In September, Mark Miller, assistant dean of student life and director of residence life, was selected as the SWACURH Advisor of The Month. Miller is a native of Rolla, Mo. National recognition went to Amy Sullivan's and Vicki Kintner's "College Survivor" program, which won Educational Program of the Month; Megan Vaughn, RHA National Communications Coordinator of the Month; Mary Knott, Student of the Month, all for September. Ms Sullivan is senior from Jonesboro, La. Ms. Kintner is a senior from Shreveport. Ms. Vaughn is a sophomore from Greenwood, La. Ms. Knott is first-year student from Shreveport.

In October, Centenary won four regional awards, including one that went on to win nationally. The Alcohol Awareness Week program presented in early October during National College Alcohol Awareness Week received Educational Program of the Month. Shannon Delaney, the advisor for James Hall Council and CAB, received the Advisor of the Month award. Ms. Delaney is a native of Boxford, Mass. Student Megan LeBato, a sophomore from Lake Charles, was named the RHA Executive Board Member of the Month. The Residence Hall Association's Game Show Week that featured activities from the Hall Council, the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and the Centenary Activities Board (CAB) received the nod for regional and national Social Program of the Month.

The Centenary programs, students and staff were selected from among nominations by hundreds of schools throughout North America. Only one awardee per category is chosen each month.
