Noises Off Continues at Centenary's Marjorie Lyons Playhouse through June 15

SHREVEPORT, LA—The Theatre Department at Centenary College will present Noises Off at the Marjorie Lyons Playhouse on June 5-7 and 12-15.

“It’s possible that a funnier comedy thanNoises Off once played on Broadway, but I don’t know what it could have been,” said Newsday’s Allan Wallach of Michael Frayn’s classic farce of non-stop hilarity.

Director Robert Buseick has assembled an outstanding cast of local talent to bring the comedy to the stage. Anne Gremillion, Patric McWilliams, Seva May, Jim Montgomery, Anna Maria Sparke Keele, Phillip Brooks, Patrick Maxey, Charity Schubert and Joshua Porter fill the roles in this comedy about a play within a play.

Noises Off will play at 8 p.m. on June 5, 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14 and at 2 p.m. on June 15. The box office will is open daily from noon to 4 p.m. for ticket reservations. The box office phone number is 869-5242. Tickets are $15 for adults; $13 for senior citizens and $10 for students. There will be a preview performance at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4 with all tickets for the preview priced at $10.

Sets and lights are designed by Don Hooper, with costume designs by Patric McWilliams. Ashley Beckham is the stage manager and Laura Beth Sentell and Adrianne Brooks are in charge of props.

Noises Off , a play within a play, begins with a troupe of has-been and never-were actors in their frantic, final rehearsal of the farce, “Nothing On.” As the melee of actors (outraged wife, squeaky blonde, company lush, etc) stumble through their lines, they are tossed about by a whirlwind of calamities – from missing contact lenses and misplaced sardines to philandering lovers and a swinging axe. They collide catastrophically in a real-life farce that parallels the one that they’re appearing in…till at last, in open revolt against each other and their production…the actors rewrite and sabotage every line of their script. The only possible response is to laugh uproariously.

Anne Gremillion (Dotty/Mrs. Clackett) was last seen as “A” in Three Tall Women and Mabel Tidings Bigelow in Pride’s Crossing, at Marjorie Lyons Playhouse.

Patric McWilliams (Lloyd Dallas, the director) was last seen as the emcee. in Cabaret, and at MLP in Art, Gross Indecency; The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde and Nine.

Jim Montgomery (Selsdon Mowbray/Burglar) appeared in The Bat, Mame, Art and Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde at MLP.

Seva May (Belinda Blair/Flavia Brent) created the role of Mrs. Banks in the Peter Pan Players production of Mary Poppins and at MLP has appeared in Cabaret as Sally Bowles and the title character in Mame.

Anna Maria Sparke Keele (Brooks Ashton/Vicki) was the title character in the Peter Pan Players production of Mary Poppins and has appeared at MLP in Pegeen in Mame.

Phillip Brooks (Gary Lejeune/Roger Tramplemain) has appeared at MLP in The Bat, The Wayside Motor Inn, The Shape of Things and The Sea Gull.

Patrick Maxey (Frederick Fellowes/Philip Brent) has appeared in the Peter Pan Players productions of Mary Poppins and at MLP as Gus Tiding in Pride’s Crossing.

Charity Schubert (Poppy Norton-Taylor) has appeared at MLP in productions of The Shape of Things and Electra. She also appeared in The Company productions of As You Like It and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Joshua Porter (Tim) has appeared at MLP in productions of The Bat, The Shape of Things, The Wayside Motor Inn and The Seagull.
