Centenary College Names Taylor Moore
New Athletic Director Effective July 1

SHREVEPORT, LA – The former owner of the Shreveport Captains baseball team, Taylor F. Moore, will become Centenary College’s Athletic Director effective July 1, Centenary President Kenneth L. Schwab announced today (Wednesday, March 12).

During a news conference in the Gold Dome, Schwab said that Moore has that unique combination of management skills and personal knowledge of Centenary athletics and the community to enable him to step immediately into the position. “Taylor Moore can hit the ground running and we are fortunate to have someone of his caliber to lead us into this historic time for Centenary athletics. Once we learned of his interest, the college community met with him immediately. He has strong support from our many constituencies.”

Centenary, which left the Trans America Athletic Conference four years ago, has joined the Mid-Continent Athletic Conference and will begin conference play this coming fall.

“Centenary has an exciting future ahead in athletics and I am pleased and honored to be able to have a part in it,” Moore said. “I’ve been a member of the Centenary family for so long, I feel like I’m coming home. I have great respect for the College and its role in Division I competition.” He will replace Dr. David Bedard, a 20-year Centenary professor of health and exercise science who has served as AD for the past four years. Last week Bedard announced his intention to return to classroom teaching during the next academic year.

A 1969 Centenary graduate and former Centenary baseball coach, Moore was president and majority owner of Shreveport Baseball, Inc., which operated the Shreveport Captains Baseball Club, until he sold the franchise in 2000. The Captains were a AA professional baseball club affiliated with the San Francisco Giants.

Long active with Centenary, Moore is a board member and former president of the Centenary Gents Club and received the Centenary Alumni Association’s highest honor in 2001, when he was named to the Alumni Hall of Fame. As an undergraduate accounting student, he earned the Louisiana Association of CPAs Outstanding Student Award.

Moore has also been recognized with the Texas League Award of Merit for 25 years of leadership, the Shreveport-Bossier Advertising Federation’s Award of Excellence, the Sports Foundation Sportsman of the Year Award and the Shreveport Journal Sportsman of the Year designation.

Moore is currently self-employed in investments and real estate development and management. Long active in local civic affairs, he is a board member of the Frost Foundation, the Committee of One Hundred, Crimestoppers of Shreveport and Centenary College. He will resign from the Centenary Board of Trustees, where he has served as secretary and member of the Executive Committee.

He is a former vice president and secretary of the Texas Baseball League and served on its Board of Directors from 1976-2000. He is a former chairman and board member of the Shreveport Airport Authority and a former member of the Mayor’s Stadium Committee, which was charged with designing and building Fair Grounds Field. His leadership roles have also included board memberships with the Central and Broadmoor Family YMCAs, ACCESS, and C-BARC. He and his wife, Judy Patterson Moore, have two sons and are members of First United Methodist Church of Shreveport.
