Nov. 15 and 16 are Dates for Centenary Choir's Annual Rhapsody in View Concerts

SHREVEPORT, LA—A wide range of musical offerings will be presented Nov. 15 and 16 when the acclaimed Centenary College Choir presents its 63rd annual Rhapsody in View concerts.

The concerts will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Shreveport Civic Theatre, 500 Clyde Fant Parkway, on the downtown Shreveport riverfront.

Admission is $7, with tickets available from members of the choir and the Downtown Shreveport Lions Club or at Southfiled Music and Tapes, 5723 Youree Drive; Expo Hall, 400 Club Fant Parkway; the Hurley School of Music office at Centenary; and the music office of First United Methodist Church. Under the direction of Dr. Will Andress, the choir will present O King All Glorious by Healy Willan, Maiden Fair, O Deign to Tell by Franz Joseph Haydn, a choral square dance from A Tender Land by Aaron Coppland, and Tenebrae factae sunt by Giovanni Palestrina.

In addition, modern works in the classical style will include A Festive Psalm by Joseph Martin, Hodie Christus Natus Est by Paul Basler and My Candle Burns at Both Ends, a musical setting by Ron Harris based on poetry by Edna St. Vincent Millay.

Also on the program: the spirituals John Saw Duh Numbuh, Praise His Holy Name and Dry Bones and popular American folk songs arranged for chorus, including Buffalo Gals and Oh! Susanna. There will also be a medley from the Broadway musical Les Miserables and a rendition of Irving Berlin's God Bless America.

The Rhapsody in View concerts are co-sponsored by the Downtown Shreveport Lions Club, Kilpatrick Life Insurance and Robertson, Bailes & McClelland.
