FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (11/03) Domestic Violence Activist Donna Ferrato to Speak Nov. 18 at Centenary CollegeSHREVEPORT, LA—Photojournalist and filmmaker Donna Ferrato, author of Living with the Enemy, will speak about domestic violence Tuesday, Nov. 18 at Centenary College. The presentation, free and open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. in the Kilpatrick Auditorium in the Smith Building. Ferrato's appearance is in conjunction with her Living with the Enemy exhibit that is on display at Centenary's Turner Art Gallery through Nov. 23. "If you've ever seen an article on domestic violence in Life, Time, Newsweek, Ms., People, or USA Today, chances are good that you already know the work of Donna Ferrato," says Dr. Lisa Nicoletti, assistant professor of art and director of the Turner Art Gallery at Centenary. While documenting suburban life in 1979, Ferrato captured on film a man beating his wife. The event prompted Ferrato's 20-year investigation into domestic violence and the founding of a non-profit organization, Domestic Abuse Awareness, Inc., with a mission to expose and help eradicate violence against women and children through awareness, education and action. Ferrato travels the globe, lecturing at schools, hospitals, government agencies and domestic violence conferences. She is focused on opening people's minds and showing what they can do to stop the pain. Her works at the Turner Art Gallery are on display from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 2-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. For further information, contact Dr. Nicoletti at 318-869-5261 or lnicolet@centenary.edu .
