Organist Josh Melson to Present Senior Recital Nov. 7 in Brown Chapel at Centenary College

SHREVEPORT, LA— Works of Bach, Buxtehude, Brahms, Mulet and others will be featured Friday, Nov. 7 when Centenary student Josh Melson presents his senior recital.

The open-to-the-public recital will be held at 7 p.m. in Brown Memorial Chapel on the east side of the campus near Woodlawn Avenue and Kings Highway.

The recital will also feature a small choral ensemble, which will sing several chorales before Melson plays variations of them on the organ.

A reception will follow in the atrium of the Anderson Choral Building.

About Josh Melson

Melson, a senior from Cherry Hill, N.J., is a sacred music major. He assumed the bench as Holy Trinity Lutheran Church's organist/director of music at of the end of August 2003. At Centenary, he is heavily involved in the various ensembles of the music school. In addition to class work, he is an accompanist of the Centenary Choir, sings in Camerata and Chorale, and plays in the bell choir.

In the past, Melson has studied piano under Mary DeTurck and Gay Grosz and organ under Joel Krott and Ron Dean. Currently, he studies organ with Dr. Hollice Watson, Centenary professor and director of music at First Presbyterian in Shreveport. He also studies conducting with Dr. Julia Thorn. He is the holder of the Mary C. White and Frank Carroll Music Scholarships. In 2001, he received the French Organ Music Seminar Scholarship to study and play at churches throughout Paris, including the famous Notre Dame.

Prior to joining Holy Trinity, Melson was the assistant organist at First United Methodist in Shreveport, and served as a substitute organist for First Presbyterian in Moorestown, N.J.
